Discover Woodcraft Rooted in Baltic Forests

glassbolt SIA brings traditional outdoor woodcraft techniques to life through hands-on education in Latvia. We're passionate about teaching people how to build birdhouses, craft garden planters, carve walking sticks, and master whittling—all using materials sourced directly from the Baltic wilderness.

Our Foundation

How It Started

glassbolt SIA grew from a simple observation: fewer people know how to create things with their hands anymore. We're not talking about factory-made items. We're talking about real woodcraft—the kind where you select a branch from the forest, shape it with chisels and knives, and create something functional and beautiful.

Our team spent years learning traditional techniques from craftspeople across Latvia. We've studied how locals carved walking sticks for generations, how they built proper birdhouses that actually attract birds, and how seasonal changes affect the wood we work with. That knowledge isn't locked away in books. It's something we share directly.

We've trained hundreds of people since we started. Some were complete beginners who'd never held a chisel before. Others came back season after season because they'd discovered a craft they genuinely loved. That's what drives us—helping people connect with nature through making things.

What We Teach

Our programs cover four core areas. Each one builds on traditional knowledge while staying grounded in practical, achievable results. You'll work with real materials from Latvian forests and learn techniques that actually work.

Birdhouse Building

Learn to construct functional birdhouses that attract local species. We cover wood selection, proper dimensions, drainage, and mounting techniques. It's not complicated, but it does matter.

Garden Planters

Design and build wooden planters suited to Baltic climate conditions. You'll learn joinery basics, wood finishing, and how to work with different wood types sourced locally.

Walking Stick Carving

Craft personalized walking sticks from branches collected in Latvian forests. We teach wood selection, handle shaping, and decorative carving techniques that give your stick character.

Whittling Basics

Start with fundamental knife techniques and progress to small carved figures. Whittling's meditative and surprisingly forgiving once you understand knife control and wood grain direction.

Seasonal Projects

Discover what's possible with foraged Baltic materials year-round. Spring offers fresh birch, summer brings pine cones and branches, autumn provides unique wood for staining and carving.

Tool Mastery

Proper tools matter. We cover selection, maintenance, sharpening, and safe handling. You'll understand why a quality chisel outperforms a cheap one every single time.

How We Work

glassbolt SIA doesn't use templates or assembly-line instruction. We're hands-on because woodcraft requires hands-on teaching. Here's our process.

1

Material Selection

You'll learn how to identify quality wood. We don't just hand you a board—we show you how to select from Baltic sources, what to look for in grain and moisture content, and why certain woods work better for different projects.

2

Foundational Techniques

Before you make your project, you'll practice core skills. Knife grip, cutting direction, pressure control, understanding wood grain. These fundamentals matter because they prevent frustration and poor results later.

3

Guided Project Work

You'll start your actual project with us watching, correcting, and explaining. We catch mistakes early so they don't cascade. You're building something real, not just practicing motions.

4

Finishing & Reflection

We cover finishing techniques—staining, sealing, protective treatments. Then we talk about what worked, what didn't, and what you'd do differently next time. That reflection is where real learning happens.

What Matters to Us

These aren't corporate values written by someone in a suit. These are principles we actually live by in every workshop and project we run.

Real Knowledge

We don't oversimplify. You'll understand why techniques work, not just follow steps. That knowledge transfers to new projects you'll tackle on your own.

Respect for Materials

Wood from Latvian forests has history. We teach sustainable harvesting, proper sourcing, and gratitude for what nature provides. It matters how you treat your materials.

Personal Attention

Small groups. Individual feedback. We're not here to certify hundreds of people yearly. We're here to help you actually learn and enjoy the process.

Creative Freedom

We teach the foundations. Then we encourage you to experiment. Some of the best projects come from people who understood the rules well enough to bend them thoughtfully.

Important Information

The educational content and techniques shared by glassbolt SIA are provided for informational and instructional purposes. Woodcraft involves the use of sharp tools and working with natural materials. Participants are responsible for following proper safety practices and may seek additional professional guidance as needed. Results depend on individual practice, dedication, and proper application of techniques learned. We're here to share knowledge, not guarantee specific outcomes. Individual projects and skill development vary based on experience and effort invested.
